These are trumpeter Ernie Royal’s only recorded tracks as ensemble leader. In these first eight tracks, recorded in 1955, we can hear him during a New York session fronting an All-Star mainstream sextet, featuring Oscar Pettiford and Billy Taylor. This compilation also contains the recordings he made in Paris in 1950 with members of Duke Ellington’s band, plus tenorist James Moody and drummer Kenny Clarke.
