Two original LPs on the Everest label: “Here Comes The Swingin' Mr. Wilkins", and "The Big New Band Of The 60's". The latter was recorded at the very beginning of the decade in question and the hope that its effervescent style would appeal as dance music to teenagers proved forlorn, but the material here, played by outfits full of star names, represents the best of swinging big band jazz. Nat Hentof expressed the view that Ernie Wilkins was “…one of the most consistently rewarding arranger/writers in jazz.”
