| Sumptuously produced, this 2-CD set presents a new and fresh approach to the interpretation of this colossal work, which remained unfinished at the time of Bach’s death. The 22 fugues have been systematically re-organised and presented in a logical order by Jacques Chailley and orchestrated by Pascal Vigneron, both of whom spent nearly ten years planning this project. The fugues are performed by three contrasting groups, alone and in combination: brass, woodwind and organ. The excellent booklet that accompanies the CDs contains a wealth of information about the genesis of the work and its subsequent treatment over the centuries. |
