This first release on a new Swedish label, Country & Eastern, is a remarkable historic recording of two master tabla players Sadanand Naimpalli & Mohan Balvally - with harmonium accompaniment and occasional recitations by their teacher & guru Pandit Taranth. The two 20 minute-plus pieces, one slow tempo, one fast, were recorded live in Bombay, in 1967. The recording quality, although quite acceptable and remastered, is not hi-fi - but the hypnotic tabla playing is truly spectacular, and the authentic live ambience only increases one’s excitement.
