This album, “Dan_Txa”, by Basque accordionist and composer, Tomás San Miguel has already been in the Top 10 of the European World Music Chart for several months in 2006. On it he explores the rhythms of traditional Basque music - backed by the amazing ‘txalaparta’ percussion instrument (normally with two players) plus cajon, jaw harps & frame drums, with occasional flutes, keyboards & guitar. Miguel creates a swirling energy, both ancient & modern, with jazz, folk and world music influences. The nearest comparison would be Kepa Junkera. Miguel was a member of the German band Dissidenten, as well as working with a wide spectrum of well-known artists, including Stan Getz, Airto Moreira and Larry Coryell.
