| In the’40s and ‘50s a renewed interest in the roots of jazz and its New Orleans origins gave many musicians from the old days, such as Bunk Johnson, a second chance at a performing career. Some were now being recorded for the first time in an effort to preserve the rich musical gumbo of ragtime, blues, hymns, marches and dances which they had pioneered in the early years of the twentieth century. This double CD includes not only the stars of the New Orleans revival, George Lewis, Sidney Bechet etc but many unsung heroes. |
