| This enterprising programme couples 3 ‘Leipzig’ Sonatas by Bach with 4 works by English composers, all commissioned for London performance in the 1960s and 1970s, by the celebrated oboe/harpsichord duo of Evelyn Rothwell (aka Lady Barbirolli) and Valda Aveling. All the music is excellently played on this CD by their young 21st century successors, Althea Ifeka and Katharine May, and of the modern works, only the charming Siciliana by Michael Head is otherwise available. |
