Though very much a cult figure, Roky Erikson has played more than a walk-on part in the cavalcade of rock history. In at the beginning of psychedelia with The 13th Floor Elevators, and later a progenitor of punk, he has influenced many better known musicians and his notoriety as a burn-out case has added to the legend, though mental illness has prevented him appearing regularly over the years…..at one point he made a notarized declaration of alien status. The two live recordings put together here are from 1979 and 1987 and include re-workings of the Elevators’ only hit You’re Gonna Miss Me and his later single Two Headed Dog , while many of the other tracks attest to his morbid fascination with horror films. The verdict of long-time friend and colleague, the late Doug Sahm: The madness surrounding Roky is hard to penetrate, and I have mixed emotions about his getting pushed into the spotlight again. But I have no mixed feelings about his music." (High Times 1995)
