Morten Varano is a big figure in the Danish music scene as a musician, booker, producer and record company owner involved in musical contexts ranging from Indie rock, over break beat and on to the clubbing culture’s house, down tempo, lounge and elegant pop sound.

That Morten Varano is a musical workaholic is demonstrated in this compilation: Retrospective. The album’s ten numbers represent a modest selection from the more than 50 titles that Morten Varano has issued throughout the past ten years.

Several of the numbers are clearly addressed to the club culture; their delectable production has captured international attention in lounge down tempo circles as well as from international DJs and remixers such as Richard Dorfmeister, Roger Sanchez and Ben Watt.

By the same token, Morten Varano has a good ear for undiscovered talents, whom he incorporates in his productions, for example, in Slowtrain’s down tempo number Trail of Dawn, where singer Lady Z’s jazzy vocal stands in the foreground of the production.
