The Bud Shank – Bob Cooper project is issued in 3 volumes of rare material and covers the 1957/58 European tours of these fine reedmen from the West Coast cool school. Most of these performances have never been released before on any format. When the ’57 tour was being planned, Bud Shank specifically asked to play with German trombonist Albert Mangelsdorf and the result was a sextet with Shank on alto sax and flute, Cooper: tenor sax and oboe, Atilla Zoller: guitar, Gary Peacock: bass, Karl Sanner: drums. The tracks here are from a Hamburg concert and a radio broadcast from the famous Munich club, Studio 15.
