| Today’s mania for ‘complete works’ recordings has led to the virtual disappearance of the ‘themed’ CD recital such as this one, which is based on music inspired by the sea. All the more reason, therefore, to welcome Jean-Pierre Ferey’s well-planned programme, where we find the only available recordings – maybe the first ever! – of music by Léon Boëllmann, Jean Cras, Koechlin, Lemeland, Malipiero and the pianist himself, pleasantly interspersed with some ‘classics’ by Ravel and Debussy. |
