Forro In The Dark are a spectacular New York-based trio who take their name from a song by Luis Gonzaga - the godfather of North-East Brazilian forro. Their leader is Brazilian percussionist Mauro Refosco (Lounge Lizards, David Byrne, Bebel Gilberto) with guitarist Smokey Hormel (Tom Waits, Johnny Cash, Beck) and accordionist Rob Curto (Klezmatics). Actor/singer Seu Jorge guests on one track, plus Jon Birdsong on cornet or euphonium on 3 tracks, and 2 backing vocalists.
Since 2002, the band has built up a devoted following, especially at The Nublu Club on the Lower Eastside, with their unique blend of traditional Brazilian forro cut with pop, soul, African, Latin and much more. |
