Juan Jose Mosalini is perhaps the greatest living Argentinian bandoneon player, and on this new project he teams up with a string quartet, the young and talented Quatuor Benaïm. This album is released on the Mañana label, which is dedicated to widening the limits of tango - and which is run by Eduardo Makaroff - musician, composer and producer and founder member of Gotan Project.

Mosalini was born in Buenos Aires in 1943, and was a teen-prodigy on the bandoneon. In 1977 he moved to Paris, and there found himself steeped in both Argentine music (he was soloist for the Piazzolla opera, "Maria De Buenos Aires") and in the avant garde - with Patrice Caratini and Gustavo Beytelmann. The latter of whom composed, arranged and conducted this absorbing album of opposing elements : traditional but contemporary, open but dense, complex yet accessible, rhythmic yet dreamy.

Mosalini has worked solo, with large ensembles, with multiple bandoneons, in classic quintet style and many collaborations : jazz, world music, classical, etc. - as well as recording extensively over the years : from his French debut of solo work on the Hexagone label in 1979; to his acclaimed ‘Che Bandoneon’ album for Label Blue in 1994, which included duets with violinist Antonio Agri; and his ‘best of’ compilation “One Man's Tango” on Shanachie in 1998.
