With his bluesy ballads and uptempo boogies, pianist/singer Cecil Gant was a key figure in the early development of rhythm & blues and a prolific recording artist with 140 issued titles to his credit. Though by this time his biggest successes were behind him, he was still selling records. Trumpeter Wingy Manone appears on five of these tracks and there are some excellent songs backed by a trio featuring Tiny Webb on guitar, including the witty spiel of “Deal Yourself Another Hand”.
