These recordings, which cemented Jimmy Raney’s reputation as a leading modern jazz guitarist, followed two years as a member of the Stan Getz Quintet and a stint with the Red Norvo Trio. Raney felt comfortable with horn players and trumpeter John Wilson was part of the quintet for all these sessions. In addition the first four tracks, from 1954, (originally issued on a 10 inch LP) mark the recording debut of Phil Woods on alto sax.
