This extremely rare and long-unavailable performance by Bobby Hackett and Jack Teagarden was recorded at the Hollywood Bowl for radio broadcast in July, 1963. The band also included : Bob McCracken (clarinet), Wayne Songer (alto sax), Ray Sherman (piano), Phil Stephens (bass) & Nick Pelico (drums). Most of the tunes were evergreen classics from both the leaders’ repertoires. There are several ‘tributes’ to Satchmo (a mentor & role-model to both) and Hackett’s intriguing reading of “My Funny Valentine” (a favourite of Miles & Chet Baker).

As a bonus to this remarkable session, Lonehill have included a rare 1960 Teagarden radio broadcast from Freddie’s Restaurant in Minneapolis - with especially fine playing from Don Ewell (piano) plus Don Goldie (trumpet), Henry Cuesta (clarinet) & bass & drums. Total time : 70.36 mins.

Reviews
The Jazz Rag - Hugh Ledigo
The consistently hight solo standard is complemented by effervescent free-wheeling ensembles in the best tradition. Expect the familiar 'Big T' repertoire and, expect to enjoy.
Jazz Journal - Bert Whyatt
Jack was suffering from laryngitis, but his trombone playing is just magnificient, as is that of Bobby Hackett and what a due we have there. Get this album!!
