These are extremely rare and long unavailable performances, on CD for the first time ever. It contains all known broadcast recordings by the Bobby Hackett Sextet from the Voyager Room of the Henry HudsonHotel in New York, between 1956 and 1958. It was a very compact band, including most notably reed man Bob Wilber, a multi-instrumentalist who, in addition to the clarinet, doubled on tenor and baritone sax, and even on vibes! Pianist Dick Cary also played the alto sax and trumpet, while baritone sax player Ernie Caceres doubled on clarinet.

This gave the sextet an especially versatile and original sound, giving the impression of many more musicians than the mere six that were on stage. This 2 CD collection comprises all of the existing recordings of the Hackett Sextet during his Voyager Room engagement originally issued on three long out of print LPs on two different labels. Also involved on some tracks are : Dick Hafer, sax; Pinie Caceres, piano; John Dengler, tuba & bass sax; and Buzzy Drootin, drums.

Reviews
The Jazz Rag - Hugh Ledigo
Hackett must be one of the most exquisitely lyrical and creative soloists ever. Welcome and superbly performed reminder of an age now gone.
Jazz Journal - Bert Whyatt
Those patrons in New York were lucky to have the opportunity fifty years ago to hear this fine band and here it is for you. Hackett was on fine form. Wilber too needs no introduction. Ernie Caceres was a splendid bass sax player
