Born and brought up in Naples, young violist Ettore Causa was selected to study at the Menuhin Music Academy in Switzerland, where he has now returned as Professor, as well as being in demand worldwide as a soloist and chamber musician. This excellent programme of transcriptions, mostly as the CD title suggests from music of the 19th century, does two things wonderfully well: it expands the repertoire for viola enthusiasts, and demonstrates to all the richly expressive potential of an undervalued instrument.
