Aka Moon are a well-established Belgian experimental jazz-rock trio who have participated with many artists on jazz, classical, world music, dance & theatre projects. The band was formed in 1991, taking their name from Pygmy culture and features Fabrizio Cassol (alto sax), Michel Hatzigeorgiou (fender bass), and Stephane Galland (drums). They have issued a total of 11 albums on the Carbon 7 label. On this new Cypres recording they are joined by M-Base trombonist Robin Eubanks (Kevin’s brother), flautist Magic Malik, guitarist Nelson Veras and pianist Fabian Fiorini for an exciting contemporary jazz session. 

Over the years their collaborations have included Indian Master U.K. Sivaraman, Senegalese percussionist Doudou n’Diaye Rose, saxophonist Mark Turner, jazz guitarist David Gilmore; the contemporary music ensemble Ictus, leading European hip hop DJ Grazzhoppa, the opera of Philippe Boesmans, Luc Bondi on Deutsche Grammophon; choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker; and two special projects: “Jeff Buckley On the Moon” and “Oriental Voices”, both of which represent unique moments of fusion between various vocal traditions.
