A remarkable album of Jew’s/Jaws Harp solos by Wang Li - who was born in Shandong, China in 1980. He left China, settled in Paris, spent 3 years of monastic life in a seminary, and then entered the Paris Conservatory to study jazz. His music is a blend of his Far Eastern roots and West European influences - and is often inspired by childhood memories of nursery rhymes, counting songs, etc. Wang Li also plays a variety of flutes and traditional wind instruments, but the Chinese ‘Jew’s harp’ is one of his favourites - usually made from bamboo or brass, and traditionally serving as a 'voice mask' for conversations between courting couples.
