Compilation of classic material produced by Joe Gibbs from 1968-69. Born in 1945 in Montego Bay, Jamaica, Joel Gibson (Joe Gibbs) began recording music in 1966. He launched 4 labels: Jogib, Amalgamated, Happy Testimony and Pressure which were distributed in Europe from 1968 by Trojan Records. Joe Gibbs virtually invented ‘rocksteady’ with Roy Shirley’s Hold Them single; he discovered artists like Stranger Cole, Peter Tosh, The Pioneers, and released Nicky Thomas’ huge international hit Love Of The Common People. He used other great producers like Lee Perry and Niney The Observer; and surrounded himself with excellent musicians: Lyn Taitt & The Jets, Aston Barrett, Tommy McCook & The Supersonics, etc. Reggae Jeggae is a homage to the energy and the creative talent of Joe Gibbs and the singers & musicians who helped lay the foundations of reggae music.
