Created by Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band founding member and lovable English eccentric Vivian Stanshall, the character of Sir Henry was originally conceived as a radio play with Stanshall’s pal John Peel.
The transition of the character to the big screen saw a cast of familiar Brit faces, headed by Trevor Howard as the eponymous hero, fleshing out Stanshall’s manic creations.
The film’s reputation has grown over the years – Bizarre magazine voted it its number one All-time Freakiest Movie almost 20 years after its initial release. The reissue of this classic film on DVD comes as the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band hit the road for a 40th anniversary tour, featuring the original line-up, with long time fans such as Phill Jupitus, Paul Merton and Adrian Edmondson helping take the place of Stanshall, who died in 1995.
