A project nurtured by clarinettist Merlin Shepherd & pianist-singer Polina Shepherd – (both leading specialists in Jewish Eastern European music and ‘klezmer’ and both currently resident in Brighton) - and based on their close family links and visits to Kiev, capital of Ukraine. This is an album of new Yiddish folk music, all composed by Merlin Shepherd and played by a superb, joyous 11-piece group, ‘The Former Soviet Union Klezmer All-Stars’, including nine Russian-Jewish musicians : 5 violinists, accordion, piano, bass, traditional instruments ‘tsimbl’, ‘poyk’ & ‘domra’ & Merlin on clarinet.
