Two bluesy, funky 1960’s albums featuring Grant Green with Hammond organ-led combos are reissued together on this first release on Groove Hut Records - a new label aiming to issue material that fuelled the Acid Jazz movement of the ‘80’s. The first session was originally issued on Argo as “Space Flight” in 1960 under organist Sam Lazar’s name, with Green guitar, Willie Dixon, bass, and Chauncey Williams, drums - recorded in Chicago; the second session, originally on Savoy, cut in 1967, was issued under Green’s name with Big John Patton on organ and Ben Dixon, drums - recorded in New York.

Grant Green made a habit of working with organists - as well as the above two, he recorded with Larry Young, Jack McDuff, Baby Face Willette & Gloria Coleman. Green, Patton & Ben Dixon (a Blakey disciple) regularly played club dates together.

Reviews
Jazzwise - Jack Massarik
All straightahead guitarists sound good with Hammond organ and drums, and the ultra-soulful Green was no exception.
The Jazz Rag - Chris Yates
A backbeat-driven urgency, surging grooves underpinning some crackling solo excursions. This is a wonderfully exhilarating and enjoyable album.
