A similar Arriaga CD programme attracted considerable interest on its recent release, so that this tenth volume in CLAVES’s excellent Basque Music Collection series should have a ready audience. Arriaga, who died before his twentieth birthday, was naturally dubbed ‘the Spanish Mozart’, particularly based on the grace and melodiousness of his symphony and string quartets – so here is an excellent chance for the enquiring listener to delve a little further, into some of his little-known vocal compositions.
