4CD set of the famous ‘autobiographical’ novel La Gloire de Mon Pere read in French by the author, Marcel Pagnol - the celebrated film director, playwright and novelist. The book was published in 1957 and he made these recordings in 1961. This was the first of a trilogy, and he followed this with Le Chateau de Ma Mere in 1958. Both volumes were made into films, in 1990, directed by Yves Robert.
Pagnol was perhaps best-known for his Marseille film trilogy – Marius (1929), Fanny (1931) and César (1936). Pagnol went on to make a series of films based on writers from Provence, and Claude Berri's films Jean de Florette (1986) and Manon des Sources were successful film adaptations of Pagnol's Provencal family stories. Pagnol died in Paris in 1974, leaving the final volume of his trilogy Le Temps Des Amours unfinished. It appeared posthumously in 1977.
