The film High Society (the musical remake of ‘The Philadelphia Story’,1940) was extremely successful at the time of its release in 1956 and has remained popular ever since. The glamorous score by Cole Porter has also been a bestseller since that time - with Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong & His All-Stars all at their Hollywood best. There are numerous musical highlights, including : Bing & Louis’ ‘Now You Has Jazz’ & ‘I Love You, Samantha’; Bing singing ‘True Love’ to Grace Kelly; Frank Sinatra’s renditions of ‘You’re Sensational’ and ‘Mind If I Make Love to You’; and the ‘novelty numbers ‘ ‘Well, Did You Ever’ and ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’.
This deluxe, digipack CD contains all the original music from the movie soundtrack and two additional studio versions of the most popular tunes. You can also enjoy a charming introduction by Grace Kelly and some comments by Crosby and Sinatra on Cole Porter’s music. This was Porter’s memorable comeback, fine music that has long outlasted the movie it was composed for. The tracks were recorded with the MGM Studio Orchestra, conducted by Johnny Green. There is no current UK issue of this famous soundtrack.
