New album by UK reggae singer, Kendrick Andy, focussing particularly on the African continent. His style is much influenced by King Tubby, Prince Jammy & Scientist. Andy was born in the West Country in November 1959. His father was a big fan of Jamaican music, and his uncle was involved in groups & live concerts, which the young Kendrick often attended. At 10 years old he went to live in Jamaica for nearly 4 years, where he began to sing and was influenced by Errol Dunkley, I.Roy, Dennis Alcapone & of course Bob Marley. He returned to the UK in ’74 and began dee-jaying, and singing in bands - making 2 ‘white labels’. In 1984 he met Martin Campbell - an influential, well-connected musician, engineer & record producer - they’re still working together. About the title track, African Blood, Kendrick says : I saw people who suffered, then I tried to write a song to unify the world.
