Louis Armstrong disbanded his orchestra in the late forties and formed his legendary, small All Stars group - which originally included Earl Hines, Jack Teagarden, Barney Bigard and Sidney Catlett as its other members. By this 1962 Stockholm concert, none of the original members remained except for Louis himself - but it was still a very able outfit : pianist Billy Kyle (John Kirby Sextet), trombonist & singer Trummy Young (Parker and Gillespie), clarinettist Joe Darensbourg (Kid Ory & Teddy Buckner), bassist Billy Cronk and drummer Danny Barcelona. Among the many highlights of this performance is singer Monica Zetterlund’s guest appearance singing My Man backed by Louis.
The bonus TV show, filmed three years later in Hollywood,, includes two important musicians: trombonist, vibraphonist and singer Tyree Glenn (ex- Duke Ellington) and the great clarinettist Buster Bailey, who had recorded his first sides with Louis in 1923, when both were members of King Oliver’s Creole Jazz Band. He would die soon after in 1967. Both lots of concert footage appear here on DVD for the first time ever. TOTAL TIME: 68 MIN. B&W / MONO.
