Pianist Billy Taylor is best known in the UK for his theme tune (“I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free”) to BBC’s Film series, long presented by Barry Norman, lately by Jonathan Ross. On this Lonehill release he leads the proceedings on two complete all-star albums : “Know Your Jazz” (1956) - on CD for the first time ever - and “My Fair Lady Loves Jazz” (1957). The former is a trio album with one guest on each, and the trio itself changing - musicians featured include : Donald Byrd, Al Cohn, Charlie Rouse, Oscar Pettiford, Kenny Clarke, Gigi Gryce, Jimmy Clevland, Tony Scott & Mundell Lowe.

The latter album also has a central trio of Taylor with Earl May, bass & Ed Thigpen (drums) - with guests : Gerry Mulligan, Jimmy Cleveland, Ernie Royal, & Don Elliot - with arrangements by a young Quincy Jones.
