Music from the ancient province of Berry, in central France. A highly experienced veteran on the vielle à roue, Jean-Claude Laporte himself learned from the famous hurdy gurdy player Gaston Guillemain (b. 1877) and now passes on his skills to younger musicians like the talented Bordat sisters who appear on this CD with him. Thus is the tradition kept alive, using historic instruments – hurdy gurdy, cornemuse (bagpipe) and flute – to play original tunes which expand and enrich the repertoire.
