Elzef are a 5-piece band from Paris - and they are the musicians who provide the incidental music for the new Rowan Atkinson film Mr Bean’s Holiday, based around a visit to Cannes. They are an ultra-eclectic combo mixing French Chanson, Afro-beat, Balkan, Hip-hop, java, Mediterranean music, Musette, carnival music, analog-electronic effects, and more !
They are subversive, surrealist and humorous - using live sketches, sound effects, rap - and playing a wide spectrum of instruments : accordéon, banjo, tenor sax, sousaphone, trumpet, banjo, drums, derbouka, etc, etc. Formed in April 2000, they are part of a French neo-brass band movement which includes groups like Tarace Boulba, Ceux-qui-marchent-debout or les Fils de Teuhpu - but their overall style & attitude has more in common with Les Negresses Vertes. Le Vent Se Leve is their second album; their first, Mais D’ou vient le Vent? was released in 2001, and is still available.
