Aline de Lima was born in the state of Maranhão, a cradle of Brazilian popular culture that was for a time under French control. She writes music whose origins lie deep in this land. She was brought up with the influences from her parents of Maria Bethânia and Chico Buarque, two poets of Brazilian Popular Music who flew in the face of the military oppression of 70’s and 80’s Brazil.

Aline de Lima moved to Europe, first to Stockholm then Paris, where she now resides and performs regularly. Her first album, produced by New York-based guitarist, singer and composer Vinicius Cantuária, is in collaboration with leading avant-garde guitarist Marc Ribot. The subtle percussion, slick guitars and silky strings all came together at Shinebox Studios in the heart of NYC.
