The baglama – a long-necked lute also known as the saz – is as popular in Turkey as is the guitar in Western countries. Erol Parlak is one of the instrument’s foremost exponents and with his superb fingerstyle playing and dedicated research he has revitalized a musical tradition. The repertoire from his five piece ensemble on this CD is based on Anatolian folk tunes but includes original compositions and improvisations.
