Jean Corti is not just the poet of the accordeon -- he embodies a whole slice of French musical history. He graduated from entertaining workers in the pre-war bistros opposite the Simca factory and playing in a military brothel after the liberation to smart cabarets and seasons in the Cote d’Azur clubs. During six years playing with Jacques Brel he wrote the music to some of Brel’s best known songs : Madeleine, Les Bourgeious and over the years has accompanied artists as diverse as Barbara and Rita Mitsouko . Association with the politically radical punk musette group Tetes Raides has kept him on his toes despite advancing years and thanks to the band he is now releasing albums under his own name.
Versatil contains original tunes and classic chansons, jazzy swing and picturesque waltzes. It’s as evocative of a romantic post war Paris as a Robert Doisneau photograph.
