This DVD release (Total Time: 60:00 min.) contains a complete uninterrupted performance by the legendary 1964 Miles Davis Quintet, issued here for the first time ever, including outstanding versions of "My Funny Valentine" and "Autumn Leaves", and featuring with Miles : Wayne Shorter (ts), Herbie Hancock (p), Ron Carter (b) and Tony Williams (d) - recorded live at Teatro Dell'Arte, Milan, Italy, October 11, 1964.
The filmed output of this quintet line-up is limited to merely four performances: three tunes from a Steve Allen show taped on September 10 and 11, 1964; the present Milan concert and the two European concerts already documented on the companion volume "European Tour 1967" (IJ518). When this Milan concert was recorded, Wayne Shorter had only been in the tenor chair for just over a month. After John Coltrane's departure, Miles had used Hank Mobley, George Coleman and Sam Rivers. The others had worked together since the Seven Steps to Heaven album in May ’63.
This concert was part of a European tour that included Germany, France, Denmark, Finland, a second stint in Germany, and finally Italy. The show featured a typical program for the period, with three standards ("Autumn Leaves", "My Funny Valentine", and "All of You"), two originals from the early years ("The Theme" and "All Blues") and a relative novelty, Victor Feldman's "Joshua" (from Seven Steps).
