· The first solo CD by Evelyn Petrova on Leo Records, “Year's Cycle” (CD LR 395), in 2004 created quite a stir. As soon as the CD was released she received numerous invitations to perform at big and small festivals all over Canada & Europe, including the Bath Festival & The Spitz in London.
· For this second CD, having composed the music, she invited Alexander Bălănescu - one of the best violin players worldwide - to record it with her in St. Petersburg, her hometown. Bălănescu, a Romanian, is the founder & leader of the Bălănescu Quartet, and a founding member of the Michael Nyman Band, performing on almost all their albums and soundtracks.
· Petrova, an unusual singer and a formidable accordion player, was a former student of and collaborator with trumpet virtuoso Vyacheslav Guyvoronsky.
· On “Upside Down” the sound of accordion and violin provide a perfect blend for her music, which fluctuates from beautiful sadness to flights of breakneck virtuosity. Both musicians add their voices on several occasions. An amazing duo is born.
