Mahmoud Ahmed’s 2007 BBC Radio 3 World music award was long overdue recognition of both Ethiopian music and of one of Africa’s finest, most evocative voices.

"Ethiogroove" successfully recreates the atmosphere of the first meeting between the star from Addis Abbaba, and the Bostonian big band Either/Orchestra, famous for their arrangements of many Ethiopian standards.

The DVD features rehearsals, interviews and the beautiful concert given at the Banlieues Bleues festival in March 2006. Anaļs Prosaļc skilfully captures the ensemble’s subtleties -- furthermore, she provides a history lesson on modern Ethiopian music.

This film amply demonstrates what jazz, blues and rock musicians owe to Africa.
