· This release contains Mel Tormé and Art Pepper’s only recorded collaborations : the two albums Mel Tormé Sings Shubert Alley (1960) & Back in Town (1959) - in their entirety - both arranged by the inimitable Marty Paich, who also played piano, organ and celeste and conducted the bands, and who collaborated with Tormé many times.
· The superb list of accompanying musicians include : Barney Kessel, Frank Rosolino, Red Callender, Bill Perkins, Joe Mondragon, Mel Lewis, Jack Sheldon, Victor Feldman, Al Porcino, Stu Williamson, Bill Hood, & Tommy Tedesco.
· The ‘Back in Town’ album was a reunion of the famous Tormé vocal group, The Mel-Tones, which made its first recordings in 1944.
