· This 1996 all-star album led by John Abercrombie has never had a UK release until now. It was recorded in New York for the Austrian Alessa label, and features the incomparable alto sax of Arthur Blythe - on two tracks only, but he makes them count, as usual.
· The masterly rhythm section is bassist Anthony Cox and drummer Terri Lynne Carrington, plus vibes & marimba player Gust Tsilis, who has worked with Blythe & Cox on a number of recordings, and who plays with great touch throughout on this intelligent album of fluid interplay, which covers material by Coltrane, Grant Green, Kenny Wheeler, Wayne Shorter, Hoagy Carmichael, & others.
· Violinist Mark Feldman guests on one track. He has worked with Abercrombie on ECM and Uri Caine on Winter & Winter, as well as the Arcado & Masada String Trios.
· Carrington’s drumming deserves an extra mention. The child prodigy, from a percussion dynasty, who went on to play with Dizzy, Getz, Kirk, Peterson, Sanders, Hancock, Cassandra Wilson as well as Joni Mitchell and Stevie Wonder - is always a treat : as individual as she is aware.
