►Cat Anderson was Duke Ellington’s main trumpet man and high note specialist for over 20 years

► “Cat on a Hot Tin Horn” from 1958 was the first LP he cut as leader and features an orchestra with a strong trumpet front line, especially when augmented with Clark Terry on a few numbers.

► This is coupled with “Ellingtonia” for which Anderson assembled some of the finest Ellington musicians, including Ray Nance on violin. Tunes chosen were in the soft swing vein and done essentially as a tribute to the Duke
