Creator of a number of film titles including ‘Good Will Hunting’, ‘Even Cowgirls Get the Blues’ and ‘My Own Private Idaho’, with the ambidextrous talents of writer and director, Gus Van Sant also has an ear for a good, appropriate tune.

• In Paranoid Park, the story of a teenage skateboarder accidentally getting into deep trouble, music is an omnipresent backdrop, and the director's choices strengthen the film's more contrived techniques (slow-motion, use of super 8, video) and fit in well with to its floating rhythm and melancholy spirit.
