· Beverly Guitar Watkins worked & recorded, as a teenager, with the legendary Piano Red in the 1950s & 60s. They formed the Meter Tones around 1958, which a few years later became Dr. Feelgood and The Interns. They played a lot of colleges (segregation permitting).
· When Red’s group broke up in about 1966, Beverly joined up with original Ink Spot, Eddie Tigner. Then there was a succession of bands, including Joseph Smith and the Fendales and Leroy Redding and the Houserockers.
· Tim Duffy of the Music Maker Foundation rediscovered Beverley much more recently, busking in Atlanta, and says : “She put on a tremendous show and she was obviously a star. We started booking package shows and Beverly consistently tore down the house....She plays low-down, hard stompin', railroad-smokin' blues. She'll tell you, ‘people are impressed to see a black woman play like a man.”

Watkins had a long musical career and worked with James Brown, B.B. King and Ray Charles and was well known for years in the blues community. 'Red Mama Blues' is a real keeper; a slow blues with Watkins getting low down and dirty on guitar.
