• The Big Man from the Bronx is back again ! After the international success of his 2006 album, Electric Chubbyland, Popa hits hard with sheer power and raw blues rock anthems in this 13 track release, Deliveries After Dark, on Dixiefrog. Searing guitars meet melodic hooks on a thunderous backbeat.
• The title track evokes shades of AC/DC while the anthemic Let The Music Set You Free rocks in a Zeppelin-esque way with Bonham-like beat and layered guitars. The Motown-like Sally Likes To Run Popa wrote about his beloved 1971 Ford Mustang Fastback. The spacey and evocative Woman In My Bed Dub is straight out of Kingston and the smoke is as thick as the dub mix.
• Popa continues to blend blues, jazz, rock, funk and hip-hop into the highly personal musical mix he calls New York City Blues. He’s the living embodiment of a new kind of American music, both rootsy and urban, that retains the spirit of the blues.
• Following his first album in 1995 (produced for Sony/Okeh by Atlantic Records legend Tom Dowd) Popa has run his own label & production company, releasing his own products (19 CDs & 3 DVDs), and those of other NY blues-rock artists.
• Frontier Promotions have overseen a PR campaign on this new CD, with positive early press from Blues Matters, Classic Rock, HiFi Plus, etc - with many key music magazines, broadsheets & radio to follow. An upcoming World Music Network compilation called The Rough Guide To Blues Revival will also be including a Popa Chubby track.
