• Acetre are a highly individual 9-piece folk group from the Extremadura region in western Spain, on the border with Portugal. Although little-known in the UK, this is their seventh CD. They released their first album in 1985.
• A mixture of traditional melodies and original compositions, their music creates a dreamy musical landscape, with choral singing that has a definite touch of Bulgaria. The instrumentation includes Arab lute, hurdy-gurdy, accordion, violin, flute, clarinet and Oriental and African percussion - and there are many guest musicians.
• Some pieces they sing in a dialect similar to Portuguese from the neighbouring region of Portugal. This is a tonally rich album, beyond conventional folklore, with the band in artistic and creative ways at their peak. The CD comes in a beautiful digipak sleeve, with a 30 page booklet, and a bonus DVD disc.
