The new album from the European-based, American singer-songwriter-guitarist - who was born in Detroit, Michigan, of an unconventional Afro American family, tinged with the essences of Native American, East Indian and Irish Blood.
Yesterday Comes is produced by Jimmy Hoyson (Ben Harper, Green Day) and is haunting, electric, intimate, and often dark and slightly strange. Her strong and yet sensitive voice (she’s six foot two) delivers a folk/rock style of story telling, with a detailed attention to lyrics.
She spent her youth in Surinam, Barbados and then Jamaica. She was taught guitar at a convent - was influenced by Leonard Cohen & James Taylor; through her father’s career met Roberta Flack & Nina Simone, who she opened some concerts for.
Studied Japanese calligraphy, contemporary theatre and African dance at Boston University - before moving to Europe : between London, Paris & Amsterdam. She recorded her first album Set You Free in the UK in 2000, and then Time in 2003.
