"Small small small small sounds" is a fascinating, intimate and (overused word) quirky album by Swedish duo Erika & Josef. Erika (Alexandersson) - vocals, harmonium, glockenspiel, and Josef (Kallerdahl) - double bass, electric bass, & vocals, create music influenced by both singer/songwriter indie pop, jazz and improvised music.
Lyrically engaging, with their own compositions and minimalistic arrangements, there are comparisons with Stina Nordenstam, Bjork, Tys Tys, Suzanne Vega, Solveig Slettahjell, and Susanna & the Magical Orchestra (without the cover versions). They are scheduled to tour in the UK in 2008.
This is their second album. Their first, "Wallpaper Stories", was warmly received and was voted one of the top ten jazz albums of 2005. But on Small... they have taken their distinctive style well beyond jazz alone. Now based in Stockholm, they formed Erika och Erika in 2001.
Erika toured the world with the indie pop band "Loney, dear" during the spring 2007 but she also plays with her own band "eRika" and with the live electronic impro duo "The Moth". Josef plays in the New Tango Orquesta, Musicmusicmusic and with this years "Jazz in Sweden-artist" Nils Berg.
