• With so little broadcasting time devoted to roots music, Scottish TV's Transatlantic Sessions have, over the last few years, become programmes to treasure. The third series continues the format described by critics as “a unique insight into the sheer joy of making music” and one of “the greatest backporch shows ever” and has been showing on BBC 4 as well as BBC Scotland and RTE.

• Some of the best acoustic musicians from Ireland, Scotland & the USA get together to record in a beautiful old farmhouse in the Perthshire Highlands sharing songs, tunes and ideas from both the Celtic and Country music traditions under the direction of the wonderful fiddle player Aly Baine & Jerry Douglas (indisputably the world's greatest dobro player, currently with Alison Krauss's band). Among the many other great performers are: Phil Cunningham, Julie Fowlis, Karen Matheson, Eddi Reader, from Scotland; Ireland's Paul Brady, Cara Dillon, Donal Lunny, Sharon Shannon and representing America: Russ Barenberg, Iris DeMent, Tim O’Brien, Darrell Scott.
