o “Unrepentant” is the new album by Calvin Russell. It’s on the French XIII Bis label and features 10 new songs. It was recorded in Austin, Texas in 2007 at Gabe Rhodes' Studio, with Gabe on lead guitar, and a great band, with background vocals by LZ Love.

o Russell grew up the hard way : raised behind Pete Pistol’s Wrecking Yard at the end of a dead end street, just north of Austin - the sixth of nine children born to a short order cook and a waitress - but with that Texan musical melting pot of blues, folk, country & rock seared into his soul.

o He came up with Townes Van Zandt, Lucinda Williams, Jerry Jeff Walker, Billy Joe Shaver, Steve Earle, & co. He did some time in jail, faced a lot of demons, but survived and found an adoring audience in France. This is (approximately) his 15th album, including live ones & compilations.

o Born in 1948, Russell shows no sign of easing-up or diluting his style. He describes himself as “An outlaw rock and roll soldier fighting sorrow in modern times” - and he just keeps rocking down that road.
