o “Maldito Tango” is the stunning new album by (Daniel) Melingo on the Manana label (overseen by Eduardo Makaroff of the Gotan Project for the preservation of living tango traditions) - his previous release “Santa Milonga” was a Songlines Top of the World.

o But with Melingo, any Gotan comparison stops there - for he is a 50year old Argentinean, tango singer-songwriter, with a rich, expressive singing voice, steeped in the traditions of the golden age but with his own outrageous, individual approach : full of the sad, poetic, funny, intense, exotic, fascinating style that tango can exude, yet with his own irreverent craziness and mockery woven in.

o On stage Melingo might discard clothing, sing lying on his back, throw his shoes around the stage, converse with the audience, whistle, laugh, dance or suddenly pick up a clarinet and play amazingly (he was a conservatory trained musician). There is a beautiful madness to his tango - anything could happen !

o He gave amazing concert performances at Womex 2007 and Midem 2008, and will be appearing in La Linea Festival at the Royal Festival Hall, with Bajofondo Tango Club, on April 4th 2008.
